Seeking the purpose of life is like wearing green-coloured glasses and designing your entire world to match the colour green.
And one day, when you remove those glasses, you realise you spent your whole life perfecting the wrong colour, while the true colour was something else altogether.
I was reflecting on this same question.
Service. Helping humanity. God. Love. Gratitude…
At the end of the day, everything can become a time-filler – something to keep life moving.
One of my clients, Natasha, is busy all the time.
Early morning routines, healthy breakfasts, business meetings, evening networking, late-night catchups – always busy.
I once asked her, “What do you think about when you’re sitting and doing none of this?”
Her response was honest:
“I don’t want to think about that. It’s pretty scary.”
Then she added, “What’s wrong if I live like this till the end and die one day? Is that a problem?”
Absolutely not a problem.
Addiction is only a challenge for those who realise there is more to life beyond the substance and when their health no longer supports the escape.
Can you see the pattern?
So… what is the purpose of life?
And what’s wrong with being like Natasha?
I’m not speaking to the Natashas here.
I’m speaking to those of you who are bored of that life too, who feel an inner restlessness, who yearn for deeper meaning, meaningful relationships, something beyond routine.
I often see people turn to spirituality.
And yes, there’s so much there to stay entertained – dimensions, angels, crystals, energies, concepts.
That can keep you engaged for a long time.
But I’m talking to those of you who have crossed that path as well and are still seeking beyond it.
If you are there, here’s the hard pill to swallow:
Take complete responsibility for your life.
Accept that the only real purpose of your life is to evolve – to become a better human being.
There is no comfort wrapped around that truth. No guaranteed softness.
And that can feel unkind.
I felt it too.
I was secretly hoping there would be something comforting. – like hugging a tree, or being wrapped in the unconditional love of a mother.
But realising that these too are projections and expectations is hard… yet true.
You are responsible only for yourself.
And yes – if you have a bigger car with a full tank, you can carry others.
But only if they ask. Only if they seek.
Interesting, isn’t it?
So don’t wait for a grand purpose to appear.
Find what genuinely interests you and pursue it.
Life is not what you desire.
Life is what you pursue.
And what you attract into your life is never what you want –
it is always who you are.
So shift your focus.
If you’re already yearning for deeper meaning, pursue what matters to you and become who you want to be.
There lies the purpose.
