What Would Spiritual Surrender Look Like?

Spiritual Surrender/Acceptance

I hope this week finds you with moments of calm and connection, though I understand that for many, it may not feel this way. Each week, my prayer is that peace finds you, but I know it may not always resonate in the ways we might hope.

I shared in advance practice sessions,

“It’s essential to remember, especially during challenging times, that wearing a peaceful mask and nurturing true inner peace are often two very different things.”

To nurture that deeper peace—or to rediscover it—we may need to let go of the image of peace we try to maintain for the world. Our ego clings tightly to that image, but real peace often calls for something more honest.

Feel what you need to feel. We don’t reach surrender by swapping out our words for ‘nicer’ ones or by forcing ourselves to accept what we genuinely don’t feel aligned with.

Surrender arrives when it’s ready, and we only reach it by accepting our truth, exactly as it is.

The first step to spiritual surrender is acceptance—accepting who we are, what we’re doing, and where we’re at. This doesn’t mean we have to love where we are or who we think we’ve become.

Often, we’re holding onto versions of ourselves that no longer serve us, and maybe we find ourselves in situations that feel limiting. But peace comes not by changing the outer, but by embracing our present state, however uncomfortable.

In a way, surrender is finding peace even with our unrest.

Acceptance is the foundation that allows us to feel secure in where we are, so we can move forward with a steady, mindful presence. So many teachings suggest that we ignore or bypass our current struggles, that we should only focus on a ‘higher’ reality.

But real growth often starts with fully acknowledging where we are. It doesn’t mean we stop envisioning what’s next, but before we set new intentions, we pause, breathe, and accept the reality right here.

How are you holding up?
