Are we ignoring Men?? The Heavy Price of Turning a Blind Eye to Men’s mental health

International Men’s Day – 19 Nov 2024.

There was no brouhaha about this day

50% of the global population is Men.

Of the over 3,000 lives lost to suicide each year, approximately 75% are men.

The global suicide rate is over twice as high among men than women and this is called silent epidemic.

1 in 9 men experience physical and/or sexual abuse before the age of 15

In Australia an estimated 336,000 men (1 in 25 males) have experienced an incident of sexual assault since the age of 15

Statistically, men tend to fall into dangerous, self-destructive behaviors rather than seek professional help for their mental health.

Their mental health issues are shown or depicted as increased rates of addiction, violence or suicide but never as victims.

We can never create a future generation free from trauma unless we involve men & women equally in voicing mental health issues.

We are less than 100 years away from wars, apartheids. We sent healthy innocent men to wars and somehow failed to address the trauma of war and its affects on families globally.

And for all those environmental activists concerned about natural calamities, disturbed thoughts and people can create more damage to the nature and its natural rhythm than the actual use of plastic, carbon print and chemicals.

Are men so strong that they don’t need any recognition at all and their issues are not to be addressed publicly?

Are we overestimating men or ignoring them?

Love
Manna 🙏
