How to alter my DNA and Genetic expression?

This week on NIJA, we were discussing the role of Karma, Epigenetics and DNA in our personal evolution.

NIJA – Innate Truth is a platform where we come together once a month to discuss deep and profound concepts of mind, body & energy without any barriers and limitations.

Karma in modern language can be cause & effect, consequence or a memory.

Question is if you are determined by your Genes, DNA and Karma, can we alter that?

Should we accept our destiny?

Ancient wisdom says Breathing(pranayama), Yoga & Prayer can alter the gene expression and that is only possible through free will which is conscious will.

And it should not be induced by someone.

Modern science says that you can alter your gene expression with deep sleep, meditation, deep breathing, yoga and prayer.

A new study from investigators at the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind/Body Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) finds that elicitation of the relaxation response — a physiologic state of deep rest induced by practices such as meditation, yoga, deep breathing and prayer — produces immediate changes in the expression of genes involved in immune function, energy metabolism and insulin secretion”

That is the summary of epigenetics.

You may ask:

Do we have control over our genetic activity?

Can we use our thoughts, choices and observations to alter the gene expression?

YES!! Your lifestyle choices impacts your wellbeing and DNA.

And you can control it.

Harvard professor, Neuro scientist and researcher Rudolph E Tanzi says :

You are not your brain; you are the user of your brain. Every choice you make determines the experiences you have, and every experience you have will condition your genetic expression. Your habits and lifestyle come from programs of genes, which you can control”

Science and spirituality are often the same thing, at different points on a spectrum. They both seek to go beyond what we understand in the moment.

Observing the world around us is best done when we are aware of being aware. This is the core of both mindfulness and science. This helps us tap into our intuition, the deepest part of who we are, enabling us to gain deep insights and make great discoveries.

This ability to stand outside yourself and observe your own thinking is the key to changing the way your genes express”.

After all today’s mysticism is tomorrows science.

Yesterday’s spirituality is the science today!!
